Life Rocks when your living room rolls
We had a short drive to Mississippi which I couldn’t believe how fast it went. It seemed like I was only in the truck for like half an hour but it was about 2 hour drive. We pulled into our RV park just after 1 and I ran in to check us in. It was across the street from the ocean so everything was within walking distance. The maintenance man showed us to our site and helped us get parked. Since it was Wednesday and Chris was working we did just the minimum, level, disconnect, push the slide out, and power then he got back to work. I finished getting the rest of the items inside pulled out. This was also just a 2 night stop so we didn’t take much out. Once Chris was done with his workday he finished the outside items of connecting the sewer and water. We then walked around to check the campgrounds out. It was a little chilly so we didn’t stay outside too long. For dinner, we walked across to Shaggy’s, a local restaurant just on the other side of the road. We sat at the bar and quickly started a conversation with the bartender and some others who were sitting next to us. We had a fun time chatting with all of them. They gave us some ideas of things to do around the area that we took note of but knowing we didn’t have long here we didn’t think we would be able to make it to any of them. The next day Chris worked for a while and I got our laundry done. Around noon we walked to try out Go-Karting. Chris had never been so he was very much looking forward to going. We had to sign our waivers and then signed up to do 2 sessions. We have about 20 minutes to wait then we are up. There are about 7 other riders that will be on the course. We were happy to have so many. It makes the race a bit more fun with more people. We have to watch a safety video then we get our helmets and are assigned to the kart. We sit down and get buckled in. The first lap is a practice lap then the race starts. Chris is destroying me. He laps me I think at least once then we see the others pulling off the track. They stop me at the starting line and I see Chris pull in with the other carts. They turn him around and he comes to meet me at the start. There is another group of people getting into the carts now. We are told to wait until they are all out and then we can begin. Again, the first lap is a practice for them so we take it easy. Once around we floor the gas and give it all it has. Chris again is smoking me. This time I saw him pass me twice and would have got me a third if our race didn’t end. We make our way to the parking spot, unbuckle, take our helmets off, and hop out of our karts. They have us put our helmets on the shelf at the exit. They bring us the tote that is holding our belongings. We are given our final race numbers. Chris is 10th overall out of all the racers that month. I did okay but did not place. We make our way back to the camper so Chris can finish his work day. Once he is done we chill for a bit then we head out to do some shopping. We head to the Sharkheads souvenir shop to at least find a sticker. Outside the store, they have a shark mouth that I climb into and have Chris snap a photo. We make our way inside where the store is filled with everything imaginable. We find the sticker we want then we look at the air-brushing pieces they have. We want to find a front plate for the truck. Chris asked if I wanted to have a custom one done but nothing is popping out at me. We find one that is perfect. We take the 2 items to the cashier to make our purchase. While walking out Chris jumped into a shark and popped his head out so I had to take a video. We sometimes act our ages but it’s not too often. We walk the boardwalk to the end to see how long it is. We want to see if the distance is sufficient to get in a good run. It is about 2 miles so we agree we will get up and run in the morning. Once back down towards the RV park, we grab dinner at Kingjaks. Chris had to take a photo of the front of the building as it was too funny not to. We again sit at the bar. The bartender recommends one of his signature drinks which we try. It is so good. We order our meal. What Chris had ordered they were out of but he quickly decided on something else and was not disappointed. He orders another signature drink the bartender has and I stay with the same one I had. We chat with a few others sitting next to us and once done we make our way back home. We get ready for bed and relax watching TV until it’s lights out time. I set an alarm to be up for sunrise. I walk over to the beach to snap a few photos. This will be the last time we are near the ocean for a while so I am trying to take it all in. Once I am back we head out to do our run on the boardwalk. It is a bit chilly but we get done 2.5 miles which is less than we like to do but at least we got a workout in. We get dressed and Chris jumps on to work for a bit. I ran to grab a few items at the local grocery store but they didn’t have what I needed. I tried another store about 15 minutes away and could get all the items we needed. When I got back I was surprised that Chris hadn’t started doing his outside duties since check out was 11 and it was already 10:45. He had thought it was a 1 pm check out. We quickly get things all picked up and are hooked up and pulling out of the park at 11:20.
As we were leaving the maintenance man came and checked to see how our stay was. We told him we had a nice time. He offers to take our garbage for us so I put it on his golf cart. We say goodbye and head out on the road. We luckily have another short drive but are excited as we are going to be 10 days at our next stop and we have so much planned. I am so anxious to get there.

Our stop in Alabama will be short. We are only staying 2 nights near Mobile at the Meaher State Park. We have a 6-hour drive so with stops we end up getting there around 4. We check in and find our way to our site. It is right on the water. The sun is just about to set so we get the minimum done by leveling, disconnecting, extending the slide, and power. We then stop, grab the chairs, and sit to watch the sunset. There is a pier off to the right with many people fishing. The wildlife of birds around us is massive. It is just beautiful. These are the moments you have to stop, look around, and appreciate having the opportunity to be here. Once the orange sky was fading to dark Chris finished the remaining outdoor setup and I went to get things pulled out inside. We are only here for 2 days so we aren’t pulling out but the essentials. When everything was in place we got ourselves cleaned up to head to dinner at Southwood Kitchen. This is a restaurant that is owned by a couple we met a couple of years ago while we were vacationing in Gulf Shore. They were at a restaurant we were at and while waiting for our table we sat by a fire having a drink and they were sitting there also waiting. While in a conversation with them, Chris learned that his instructor Curtis while at Paul Smith, was a friend Chris made while they both worked at NECI. When we were planning this journey we had planned to stop in Mobile so we could check out their restaurant in Daphne. We should have known to get reservations because when we got there we would have had over an hour wait but the hostess told us about the Southbar just next door they opened that has a full bar, it is first come first served but you can also order the same food they serve at Southwood Kitchen. We were able to get seats at the bar. We had some fantastic drinks made with homemade mixers. We ordered some oysters to start and for our entree, Chris had scallops with goat cheese green onion orzo and I had the prime rib special. It was all so delicious. Chris was able to finish his but I was so excited to have leftovers to have for breakfast with eggs. We talked with some folks sitting next to us for a bit then Chris asked the bartender if she knew if Jeremiah was in. She said he usually always is but he is away hunting for the weekend. After chatting with her we realize she is his co-partner. We had met her that evening but we didn’t even recognize her. We chatted with her for a bit to catch up. We ordered some dessert to go, settled up on the bill, and headed back to the camper. It was late enough so we just went in and watched some TV in bed. The next morning we took our time getting up. We had brunch plans with Chris’s boss at 11 so while getting ready we enjoyed some mimosas sitting outside in the sunshine watching all the different birds that were around. When it was time we headed out to meet at the restaurant. We got there just as Peggy and Brian were getting there. We checked in but there was about a 30-minute wait so we added our name to the list. They have outside seats around a fireplace that we can sit to wait. The guys went to grab drinks while Peggy and I went to hold a seat. We sat there catching up while waiting for our table to open. Chris doesn’t get to see Brian often so it was great to have this time. They were at their condo in Gulf Shore heading back to Atlanta so this stop was on their way through. It was Brian and Peggy’s condo we were staying at the time we met the owners of Southwood Kitchen. We are approached to let us know our table is ready. We head inside to our table. We had a fantastic meal and enjoyed our time with them. Once done we paid the bill and headed out to the parking lot. We said goodbye and found our way to the truck. We went to Lowe’s on the way home to get some electrical plugs we needed to fix the tongue jack. We find what we need needed then go back to the campground. We chill for a while, Chris works on fixing the wiring and I help the best I can. Once done we decide to make a drink and walk around the campground some. We end up talking to a couple who tell us about a walking path that leads out around the marsh. We chat with them for a bit more then go back to the RV to refresh our drinks and find our way to the path. It is almost sunset and the sky is starting to light up. The path is beautiful. We are looking for signs of alligators but unfortunately, we are not able to find any. We make our way all around it and head back to the camper. We sit outside for a bit then we head in to make some dinner and relax inside watching TV. In the morning I decide to get a workout in while Chris hops on work for a bit. We move today but we have a short drive so we won’t leave until checkout time at 11. Around 10 we begin to get everything picked up and are driving out right at 11 am. We stop at the office to see if they may have a sticker for the state park but they don’t have any. She gives me a bumper sticker but it is not what I would put on the slide. I checked at a couple of stores when Chris stopped for gas but still found none. Oh well. I have a few states that I didn’t get stickers so I will just place an order for the ones missing and have them sent to us. I can’t believe how fast this drive went. It seemed we were at the next stop so quickly.
Our last stop in Florida is in Williston at Devil’s Den. This is a prehistoric spring attraction that also has a campground and cabins on the premises. Since we had such an intense few days in Orlando we wanted to find a relaxing location where we didn’t have to leave the grounds at all. Before getting to the campground we made a stop for lunch as I knew I would be cooking each meal for the rest of the week and I wanted something super greasy. Chris got himself some Popeyes and I went even worse with McDonald’s. That Big Mac was everything. I can’t remember the last time I had one of those. Once at the campground, we stop so I can check us in. We get our site information and make our way back to it. We set everything up. The carpets, sign, tiki man, dishy, fire pit, and propane tank, everything went out. We are here for the week so we wanted to be sure we were nice and cozy for it. We had no plans of going anywhere all week except to explore Devil’s Den. This meant that each day really only consisted of Chris working and me doing things for our social accounts. It seemed to rain for most of the week also so even when he was done with his workday we would sit inside watching TV. We had a cat that had found their way to the campground. Once we gave it some attention it didn’t leave. It stayed under our camper and came out when we were outside. When we had the door open it would find its way onto our stairs and just meow at us. I didn’t hate having the visitor. It was a very relaxing week of doing a bunch of nothing. Friday, on our last day we had made a reservation for 1 pm. We put our suits on, packed up our towels and GoPro, and made our way to the office. There we paid for our admission and rental of our snorkeling gear then made our way to a picnic table to leave our towels and clothes. We grab our gear, GoPro, and head down the stairs into the den. It is pretty cool. You walk down metal stairs to a platform that is in the water. Here you put your gear on and walk a couple more steps to swim out. Inside the dry cave is an underground spring that has an inverted mushroom shape below the surface, there is a 120 ft surface diameter, the maximum depth of the spring is 55 ft. and the water is 72 degrees year-round. Devil’s Den does not offer scuba diving lessons but it has turned into a location for scuba instructors to train. Below the surface are rocks and some fish of all sizes. There was also a turtle that was swimming around. I enjoyed watching the scuba divers. You see them go down until you just don’t see them anymore. I hope to learn to scuba some day but I think I’d like to learn somewhere with more wildlife. The admission gives you a 90 minute time to be down in the den but after about an hour, I was cold and had already swum the whole surface so we decided to get out and head back up. Once back at our table, I could barely feel my toes so I used their shower to stand under warm water for about 10 minutes to warm up. I was so glad they had these. Once done Chris and I return our gear and take a few pictures of the opening of the hole above the water. The name Devil’s Den was because in winter when it is very cold out steam will rise through the hole.
I was happy to be back at the camper. I put some cozy clothes on, wrap up in a blanket, and find myself a seat on the couch to enjoy some TV. After dinner and cleaning up, we ended up pulling the fire pit out and sitting outside for a little bit before heading to bed. It is our last night here and haven’t been able to enjoy any time outside so we had to take advantage of it knowing we won’t have a fire for about a week. For our next 2 stops, we are only at each for 2 days so we only take out the necessities with stays that short. In the morning we were up early and getting things packed up ready to head out by 9 am. We have a 6-and-a-half hour drive so with stops it will be closer to 8 hours. Chris is finishing putting the power away, I have already put the stabilizers up and going to grab the blocks that are under them. The folks in the RV that pulled in last night while it was raining are talking to Chris. We chat with them for a few but it is now after 9 so I politely say we have to get on our way. We say goodbye and we go to finish hooking up to the truck. Once ready Chris pulled forward I put the level blocks away and jumped into the truck. I am curious to see how this drive goes. We have many long drives ahead of us so I wanted to see how well I did and what was my max I can sit in the truck without a stop. We pull out of the campground at 9:30 and are off. We have been in Florida for 3 weeks so I am excited to move to another state. Our stay in Orlando wasn't about seeing nature but it was experiencing our first-ever EDC, Electric Daisy Carnival. This is an EDM music festival where over 300k people will join together at Tinker Field to spend 3 days of high-energy music. You enter into a community of people who respect each other with peace, love, and unity. We get to our site on Thursday an hour before check-in but it’s available so we can go set up. While checking in the gentleman tells me that they are celebrating their 50th anniversary and on Saturday they will be having a live band and food truck. He invites us to join but I politely decline saying we are here for an event so we won’t be around. He asks me what it is so I explain. He said the last guy to check in was going to the same place as us. When he was explaining the location of the site he said he put us next to others who are going to the EDC also. Cool move dude! I congratulate him on the 50 years and head out to the truck as I am sure Chris thinks I am not coming back since I’ve been in there for so long. We have a 4:30 appointment so we leave around 3:45 as traffic seems to be picking up. We get there about 15 minutes early so we can complete the paperwork. Once we are both done we go grab some groceries from next door. We are going to grab dinner while out but we run to drop the groceries off at the camper. We then go to downtown Winter Garden, which is the town our campground is in. It is about 20 minutes from Orlando. It is a really cute town with streets made of brick, multiple fountains, lights, and swings lining the center of the street. Golf carts get the right away because there seems to be more of them than cars. We grab a bite to eat sitting outsideat one of the many restaurants to choose from. After dinner, we walked the street more to enjoy all it had to offer. We then walk back to the truck and head back to the camper. We make sure we have all our outfits ready then relax in front of the TV before bed. In the morning we take it easy getting out of bed. The gates open at 1 pm but I want to be sure we take it easy being the first day so I am not trying to be there right at 1. Chris is dressed and ready by 10, I have showered but I have comfy clothes on as I still have to do my hair and makeup before I even think about getting my clothes on for the night. He sees the next-door campers out so he walks over to introduce himself. 2 couples are from Chicago and Michigan. They had been out at the pre-party the night before so they are just rolling out of bed and heading to grab some coffee and a few things they need for the show. We chat for a bit then, invite them over when they are back for mimosas, then they leave, and we go back so I can finish getting myself ready. I am very happy with how easy it was to get my hair done. I have an idea while doing my hair that I should use the sparkle nail polish and paint it on my net shirt to have it sparkle. I tried a square and it seemed easy. I tell Chris what I am thinking. He seems a little hesitant at me starting it which makes me think. I have already started so instead of doing the whole shirt I add splatters all over one side. It looks all right but when I get dressed I end up wearing it as the back. We pack up the backpack and get everything ready so we can order an Uber. We walk to the front office and wait to get picked up. I still had my retainers in so I had to run back to the camper to drop them and run back. Thankfully the driver waited for me to get back but it was so hot. I was already sweating. We get dropped off out front and have to walk a bit to get to the gates. We have the VIP pass so we have a separate entrance. We show our ID, get our 21+ wristbands and then we have to go through security. They didn’t even make me unlock my backpack to check it so I just had to pass through the detectors. I wish I could put into words the feeling of just walking onto the grounds. Instantly you have music playing from Neon Garden being on the left of the gates. To the right is a bar so we grab a drink and go straight to merch as Chris wants to find a hat. The line is long but we wait. I am glad we did because I got a fan and he found a hat. The fan is a necessity at this event. The amount you dance it is the only thing to keep you from drowning in your sweat. We then walk towards Kinetic field. This is the main stage and they have a VIP section so we go to check it out. This upgrade is so worth it. We get air-conditioned bathrooms and a good space in front of the stage. They also have multiple bartenders set up inside VIP and a cute sitting area. We get a picture of us taken in the photo set then we go to see more of the grounds. Right outside VIP is a grilled cheese food truck so we grab one to put some food in our bellies before we get too much into this. As we walk to the next stage they have so many statues of flowers, metal people, lights lit up on trees, made walkways, honestly just so much you can’t even explain it. It is still daylight so I am not even aware of all there is. When we were walking in we met a couple who were from the UK. We ended up seeing them over at the Stereo Bloom stage. We hang out with them for a bit then we carry on to keep exploring. It is almost sunset so we head back to Kinetic to the VIP area to catch Deadmau5 for the sunset set. Did this get us going? It was amazing. The stage has a wooden woman who moves her hands, opens her eyes and the pyrotechnics are out of this world. On top of all the energy from the crowd, it is just something you can’t explain unless you experience it. We are so sweaty so we find our way out of the crowd once they are done and we head to do a ride on the Ferris wheel. With our VIP we have a separate line than GA so we get on a lot faster. It couldn’t have worked out better. We are getting into our pod as Alok was just starting. We did our first live on Instagram. It was amazing to be able to see all the stages with the lights and bursts of fire and the music filling the air. I so wish I had my live footage to rewatch but I got an error and it didn’t save. I do know I will forever remember it all and will hold that memory for a long time!
We walked through all the fun seating and lit up mushrooms and a huge tree with lights hanging to find our way to Neon Garden. There were men on stilts that made for fun visuals while watching them. At Neon Garden we dance for a bit but aren’t feeling the vibe so we make our way back to Kinetic Field. We stay there for the rest of the night making our way to the front of the stage. The heat you can feel from the pyrotechnics is crazy. The last set ends at midnight and people are starting to head out. I am approached by a girl who starts to talk with us. She is there with her son and some friends. We ended up walking out with her and talking about going to hang out together. Trying to get an Uber was impossible. We walked for about an hour down the main road but had no luck. I had now been on my feet for over 12 hours and I was now getting tired. We tell her we will link up tomorrow and we head the other way to get closer to the way we have to go until we finally can get an Uber ordered. We still had to sit on the stairs for almost 40 minutes until it got there. We are dropped off at the campground office around 2:30 and on the walk to our camper, I am now feeling how much my feet and ankles hurt. As soon as Chris and I walk in the door we undress and climb right into bed. I didn’t even brush my teeth I was so tired. I take it very easy out of bed. I am again not trying to be there too early. While drinking my coffee I add a stitch into Chris’s shirt to be sure it stays for the night. When done I get showered and start getting ready. My hair takes a bit but with Chris’s help, the braid and bun work with the pink extension. I added another in the back and feel happy with the outcome. I do my makeup and get dressed. We pack up the bags and order the Uber. We are back on the grounds and it is another day. We realized the day before we didn’t make it to the other side to see the stages so after getting in the gates and security, we grabbed a drink, I filled up with hydration water and we started to make our way to check things out over on the other side of the stadium. We pass the Volta Beauty Bar which is a service that comes with the VIP package. We ask about what is offered. They will do your hair but it was about a 4 hour wait. Or you can get gems and glitter on your face. We waited for about an hour but I am so glad we had them added. It added so much to the experience of the festival. Plus it made the perfect added touch to our fits. We make our way to Circuit Ground which also has a VIP section set up. We go in to see what it is like in there. Out on the field in front of the stage we dance, take some chocolate, and take in all the energy that is around us. We get a good sweat on so we decide to take a break and walk some more. We find a walkway along the backside that we take. 2 huge TV screens just slide so trying to get a certain background was a fun time. We knew it was getting late and we hadn’t eaten so we went to see what was in the food area. We both get something from different places and find a table to sit at. Someone is sitting on one side so I ask if he cares if we sit with him. We talk with him and learn his there on his own. We hang out with him while we eat and chill for a bit. We then are ready to venture some more so we snap a photo with our new friend and roam. We are sure to make our way to Kinetic to watch Fisher do the Sunset Set. Wow is all I can say! We then walked over and spent the remainder of the night at Circuit Ground as the music was lit. I don’t remember exactly how the whole night went but I know we went on the chair ride, met an awesome couple while chilling on the grass under the huge lit-up dandelions, saw some soul-shivering shows at Circuit Ground, and at the end of the night when leaving it was the slowest possible exit while walking in a sea of people.
Once we finally outside the gates we are still in a slow go to the main road. To find out once we made it further up it was going so slow from people holding signs saying we are sinning and need to find Jesus. We are on the main road and still have to walk about a mile to be able to catch an Uber. Even when we get down there we end up waiting over an hour and a half before getting picked up. We are dropped off at the office and start to walk to our site. My feet and ankles feel like they are on fire. As walking our neighbors are just leaving their camper from having to go back to get something before heading to homebass. They ask if we are going and we should go with them. We tell them to go have the best time. They head off and I am the happiest when we are home. I take my boots, socks, and stockings off to find my ankles swollen and irritated. Because of all the glitter I jump in the shower and clean it off of me. Chris jumps in after to get it out of his beard as best he can. I am already in bed and am not moving until I have to tomorrow morning. Day 3, I feel both ways, I can’t believe it’s the last day to I can’t wait to make it through today. Again, I tell Chris we don’t need to go in too early. We have seen all the grounds and there isn’t anyone that we are dying to see right on any of the early sets. I have a very slow move out of bed after after watching a couple of episodes of Gilmore Girls. I make my way to the shower and get myself ready. I am not thrilled with my outfit but I make it work. I have a sunflower headband I put in my hair and finish up my makeup. Chris has been ready for almost 2 hours so he is just relaxing and enjoying his mimosas. Around 2 pm he called the Uber, still earlier than I wanted but he was sick of sitting around so we got picked up and dropped out front of the grounds around 2:30 pm. It’s the same half-mile walk to the gates, we get our 21+ bracelet, through security and the last day of EDC has begun. Chris gets a drink and I fill up my cup with the electrolytes water they have for free then we just walk. We end up going to the shops where Chris finds a pair of shorts he buys. I look to see if I could find something better to wear but nothing jumps out at me. I found the kandi making table so I began to work on making one. Being day 3 there isn’t much for letters so I grab beads and all the letters I can until I can make a word. Chris wants to go change so I put everything I have for beads in my bag and we head to the bathroom. We used the bathrooms near Kinetic Field so we ended up checking out what was going on and listening to a few songs. We then walk back so I can finish my bracelet. The night was pretty mellow. We didn’t make our way through crowds to be in the middle of them close to the stage. We stayed back and enjoyed more space around us. We also walked a lot more not staying at one certain stage or area for too long. Until the last couple of sets of the night. We made our way back to Kinetic and watched until the end of the night. We didn’t want to have to get stuck in a slow process of getting out of the park at the end of the night. We ended up leaving at 11:30 so we could make our way to call an Uber and again not wait hours for one to pick us up. We can have an Uber within 10 minutes of getting to the pickup spot. Most of our drivers didn’t have any conversation during the drive besides the first day on our way there and this ride. We chat with him the whole way which makes it seem like a faster ride home but again once we are dropped off at the main office and walking home I am so happy I don’t have to do this again tomorrow and I can not wait to get my shoes off. Back at the camper we take no time getting ready for bed and are fast asleep.
Over the past 3 days, we walked 126,656 steps which was close to 60 miles, danced, laughed, and met some great people. Will I ever do this again? Hell Yes! We are already talking about next year. I will be more prepared knowing now what to expect. We will also stay in a hotel so we don’t have to deal with Uber and I will have a hydration pack with me. I am very happy that Chris and I are not afraid to do what makes us happy and not care what people will think of us. If we did, we would have missed some of the best moments in our lives. So word of advice, do what makes you happy! Monday morning we stay in bed until about 8:30 then get ourselves up and ready for a move day. We only have about 2 hours so once we have everything picked up and put away. We connect pick up the stabilizers, pull off the X-chocks, connect to the truck, and are on the road by 11 am. I immediately look for what greasy fast food restaurant we can stop at as I want something so bad for me to eat. I feel I have burned enough calories to deserve it. Daytona was a filler really so we didn’t do much or get many photos. We knew we wanted to attend our first EDC, Electric Daisy Carnival which is an EDM music festival in Orlando but needed somewhere to fill up some days before we made it there. This is how we found our way to Daytona. We got to the campground an hour early because of the short drive but our site was ready so we were able to get in. Once we were all set up we watched TV outside because it was so nice out and we felt we were stuck inside most nights the last week. We do our normal dinner, move inside to watch TV, and off to bed. The next day Chris works and when signed off we go to Volusia Mall to find Chris his outfits for EDC. We luckily are able to find everything with a one-stop shop. I did get a shirt that I needed also. We are now hungry so after looking around in the area we find Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. We are across the street from the Daytona Speedway which has begun to set up for Christmas so the park and stores are starting to fill with lights and trees. At the restaurant, we order a drink and end up getting nachos to share. UMMMM like 5 people could have eaten this plate. So much food. We did our best at it then settled up to make our way back home. It is still a bit early so we watch some TV before bed. The next day is our normal work, and dinner, try to have a fire but run out of propane. We brought it up to the office but they won’t fill it because they said it was too late. Inside to chill until bed. After work, we went down to put our toes into the Atlantic Ocean for the last time for at least the next year. It is a beautiful evening on Ponce Inlet Beach with the sun setting. We walked for a while, stopped to take a few photos, and then walked back. We found a restaurant called Hidden Treasure Rum Bar & Grill just up that road that we stopped in for dinner. We sit at the bar that has 2 others sitting at. We ordered this amazing crabcake meatloaf covered with cheddar mac & cheese lobster sauce. (droll) It was as good as it sounds. When back home I have to cut a shirt Chris has to wear for Saturday night. We measure it, pin it, and trim the bottom section off. I then use a hemming tape that I iron to make a hem. I am very impressed with how well it turned out. I cut my net shirt up to be just a little shorter but that is all it takes with it. It’s off to bed we go. It was nice to be able to relax after our workout. Chris has the day off so after showering and getting ready we sit outside together. Around 10 am we begin to pick up and get ready for our move. We have another short travel day so we leave right at the 11 am checkout time. Our first stop in Florida is in St. Augustine. It is just a short drive to get there. We are able to get in just a little before check-in time. When backing into our site we notice how tight it is going to be. There is a tree in the back, one on the side, and the slab to fit in-between. We backed up as close we could to the slab and brought the camper as far back to the tree as possible to see if the slide would have enough room. We think we will have just enough room. We pull forward so I can put level blocks under the right tires then back in place it goes. We get everything in place then disconnect the truck. I begin to push the slide out while Chris stands outside to be sure we are good. When I say we have no wiggle room, I mean we could not go either way any different than we were. We did notice when we put the slide out and from being on the sand we were not level anymore but we are keeping it as is. It wasn’t the worst and I am not trying to get it between the trees again. Once we are all set up we took the bikes down and rode around the campground. We then decided to take them out and explore. We take a side street that leads us to the beach. The road is the access for cars to be able to drive on the beach. Bikes are also allowed so we took them all the way down to the end and rode back. Chris had to try a burnout which covered his bike with sand. We missed our exit but just went to the next one and headed back to the camper. We had a relaxing evening sitting out by the fire, making dinner, and turning in early for bed.
Monday was a regular work day. We relax outside for a bit when done and then decide to take the bikes the other way down the beach. We find our way to the street and stop at a restaurant to grab dinner. I got an awesome teriyaki pineapple meal that came out looking fire and tasted as good as it looked. It was dark by the time we left so we headed back to the camper and went inside to get ready for bed. It is Halloween so after Chris finishes his work day we get ready in our costumes. I refused to spend money on a costume when it would just sit in the camper for the next year taking up space so we used the hats we had done in Nashville, wore flannel, jeans, and cowboy boots and we looked the part. We had to drive to the city of St. Augustine to get to St. George Street. The party we are going to is at Prohibition Kitchen so we decide to just eat dinner there before the party starts. Unfortunately, we had to leave the building and wait in line to enter back in for the event. While waiting outside in line the people watching and seeing all the incredible costumes was awesome. This town sure knows how to celebrate. We had a great time meeting people, dancing, watching the costume contests, and listening to the band play. We ended up leaving around 10 pm and walking around the historic town. It really gave a creepy vibe with people in costumes with the current surroundings. After walking for a while we head back to the truck to make our way to the camper.
After working until about 4 pm when we log off eat some chocolate and chill for a bit. It was super windy so we went inside and watched multiple episodes of The Masked Singer. We had a healthy piece of pie for dinner and then called it a day, time for bed. Work wasn’t so bad because it was still super windy outside. At lunchtime I didn’t feel like sandwiches so we went next door to check out a local restaurant, Hurricane Grill. We share a meal and have a drink. Since it still wasn’t comfortable to sit outside and we seemed to spend a lot of time inside we walked down the road to have dinner at Oasis Restaurant. It’s on the second floor so we could watch the clouds move in. We could see it was going to start raining so we finished up, paid the bill, and headed back before it started. Once we get the chairs put away back inside for another evening watching TV and heading to bed. We get up for a last run on the beach. It’s a cool morning, the sun is rising and the wind has died down some. It was an excellent last run. After getting our day started the rain and wind have now moved in. It sticks around for most of the day. Once we are done working we take a walk around the campground to move our legs. It still isn’t the best weather so again it’s another night of sitting inside making dinner, watching TV until it’s time for bed. The next morning it is raining so I lay around in bed watching some Netflix while Chris gets ready. Once he is out of the shower I get in and get myself ready. We make some breakfast and get things to head back into St. Augustine to explore more of the city in daylight. On our way into town, Chris has to take the truck to the beach for a drive. It isn’t often we get to drive on the ocean. We make our way down the beach and off on the next street then we head to a car wash for a much-needed wash. This was the first car wash since we left and Black Betty was dirty! We then make our way and find a parking spot inside the garage. I take the camera with us but I don’t end up getting many shots. We walk from the pillars on the top of St. George to the bottom of the street. Going into many of the wonderful shops and appreciating the architecture of the buildings. On our way back up the street we stopped at a bar to have an appetizer and a drink. We are on the way to the truck to drop off the camera when we stop in a local shoe shop and I ended up buying a pair of Birkenstocks that I had been wanting. We drop everything off at the truck and head back to do a tasting at the distillery. I had forgotten my ID but they still let us in. We have a small group of 4 and have a fun time trying all of them. They had so many great choices. We ended up buying 5 (the 🔥 were the ones we got) so we got a 6th free along with a cooler and they also threw in some extra merch. They would have held onto it but they close at 7 and we didn’t want to have to worry about it so we walked it back to the truck. We then headed back out to hit a few bars we wanted to try. The first was the No Name bar. It wasn’t really happening but we did add our Instagram to the fence to join the many other doodles that had been made on it. We moved to the front to be closer to the street but still, the vibe wasn’t right. We had seen through the fence a band was setting up so we went to check it out. There was a sign that said to enter at the entrance of Bull and Crown Publick House. We make our way there and decide to grab dinner before heading out back. We had a great meal sitting on the front deck right on St. George Street so people watching was the best entertainment as we ate. Once we were done we still had some of our drinks left but we were able to take them out back to watch the band. They were on a break so we found a picnic table to sit at. There was an elderly gentleman sitting next to us with another man. We started chatting with them and found the other man was in the band. He was just on his way back up so we chatted with the elder man until the music started. The band was good. We danced some and after a bit it was getting late so we decided to make our way to the truck and back to the camper. We wake up at 5:45 (which is actually 4:45 because of the time change) to take the bikes to the beach do a sunrise ride and catch it with the drone. It takes a few minutes to get the drone in place but then it follows us as we ride catching the beautiful sunrise beyond the ocean waves and we ride along on the beach. It was chilly so I was glad I had a hoodie on. I couldn’t believe Chris was only in shorts and a T-shirt. Around 7:30 we bring the drone down, I snap a few photos with the camera than we ride down the beach. I am freezing by the time we are back and off the beach. We go to Red Frog and McToad to get some brunch. I am so fricken cold. We are the first at the restaurant so we find a seat at the bar. I order an Irish coffee to help warm up and Chris gets a mimosa. Within no time there are 5 locals who have come in and sat at the bar. I guess I had sat in one of the seats they usually take but we all joked about it and said I can borrow it for today. They were a wonderful group of people. We chatted with them the whole time we were there. We had a great breakfast and a few drinks but then it was time to head back to the camper to start picking up as it was a move day. We say goodbye to everyone, I give the guy back his seat 😆 and we go get on the bikes to ride back home.
We instantly started getting to work putting things away and packing up the camper to get connected to the truck. Again, we have no wiggle room so I watch to make sure Chris can pull forward safely. He does, I pull the level blocks put them away and we are off. We were told to take A1A all the way as it is a beautiful scenic drive down the Atlantic Ocean and brings us right into our next stop. |
